Lab Assignment due Monday 3/3/2014

THIS ASSIGNMENT IS FOR BOTH INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED CLASSES.
By Monday, March 3rd at 3pm, please finish this three-step assignment, following the directions below:
1) Finish recording your first three podcast episodes.
2) Email the two audio files to hannahkovacs@csinow.com
3) Upload both audio files to podomatic.com

1) Directions for recording:
  • You can use the 'Sound Recorder' program on the computers in room 215 or in lab.
  • You can use a recording program on your home computer or laptop (I highly recommend downloading audacity).
  • Or,  if you have a smart phone, *I personally recommend* using a voice recording app on your phone. You will get the best quality this way. After recording it on your phone, email yourself the file so you can access it on a computer.
  • Please NAME YOUR FILES USING Your level, Your name, AND YourEpisodeNumber (for example, 'IntermediateHannah1.wma' or 'AdvancedHannah2.mp3'
2) Directions for emailing me the files
  • You should email me from your csinow.edu account if possible, but I will accept emails from another account if necessary.
  • Start an email to hannahkovacs@csinow.com, write your name in the subject line, then attach the two audio files and click send.
  • Make sure you remember where you saved your files.
3) Directions for uploading the files:
  1. When you have finished recording and saved your files, go to https://www.podomatic.com/login.
  2. Click the "LOG IN" button, then click "Log In with Email."
  3. For the Email, type my address hannahkovacs@csinow.com and for password type eslacademy
  4. Once you are logged in, click "Publish" button near the top of the page.
  5. Click the link on the bottom right that says "Post New Episode."
  6. Make the Title Your Name Episode # (for example, "Hannah Episodes 1 and 2").
  7. You can leave the Description blank, and click the "Save & Continue" button.
  8. Click "Upload a file," then click "Select some files (Max 1G)"
  9. Find the file in the location where you saved your first episode. (If you didn't save it on that computer, find it in your email, then save it to the desktop, and then go back to the "Upload a file" box to find it.
  10. When you have found your file and clicked 'Open,' it will then begin uploading. When it is finished uploading, it will say "1 file uploaded."
  11. When the episode is uploaded, click "I'm finished uploading. Close this window."
  12. Then return to the podomatic page, and click "upload a photo" and choose a photo (or if you'd rather not, not click "I don't want to select a photo. Skip this step.")
  13. Next, on the 'Tags' page, click "Save & Continue"
  14. Then, on the 'Review and Publish' page, scroll down and click "Save & Continue"
  15. Then repeat steps 4-14 for your second and third podcast.
  16. Finally, click "View episode page." Listen to your podcast here, and if it sounds right, you're done!
  17. For full credit, I must receive two files with one episode recorded each, and I must see that you have uploaded both to my podomatic page. So, as always, email me if you have any problems.
Good luck everyone!
I can't wait to listen to your episodes!!

Advanced Chicago Lab due Monday, February 10th @ 3pm

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST CAREFULLY. IT CONTAINS DETAILED DIRECTIONS AND ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS, EMAIL ME AT HANNAHKOVACS@CSINOW.COM

Before 3pm on Monday, February 10th, you should have (A) posted a complete draft of your first and second podcast scripts on your blog, and (B) practiced reading the scripts to make sure each one is at least 5 minutes long. Please follow the steps below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: *DO NOT COPY/PASTE*
If you would like to use information from an online source, put it in your own words. If I find evidence of copying and pasting, you will not receive credit for the assignment.

Each of your two separate podcast scripts must include:
1. A minimum 5-sentence introduction with these things:
---A welcome to your listeners (For example, "Hello everyone, and welcome to my podcast!"
---Your name and the name of your podcast
---A summary of the topic for this episode of your podcast
---Some interesting facts or other ways to intrigue your audience
2. After the introduction, you should write the rest of your 5-minute podcast. It depends how long your sentences are, but you need a minimum of 50 sentences. You may need to add more later

While you are writing, use the internet to research your topic, or to fact-check your own knowledge to make sure what you're reporting is correct. BUT DO NOT COPY/PASTE. PUT EVERYTHING IN YOUR OWN WORDS, OR YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT.

Once you have the 50+ sentences of your content, write a closing. (For example, "That's all we have time for today. I hope you've enjoyed my podcast, and join me next time for another episode!")

When you have finished this draft, you should practice reading it while you time yourself with a clock. If you met the minimum of 5 minutes, then publish the post. If you read it in less than 5 minutes, then edit the post and add more content.

I will be checking your blogs before class to give credit for this lab assignment, and I'll be editing the drafts for those I receive in time, so please publish early!
